Dominant Heath take all 3 points against CDG
It was finally matchday for the Heath after their previous Tuesday and Saturday fixtures were postponed as the winter rain got the better of many Sussex clubs’ pitches. The visit of Crawley Down Gatwick was the first to be played at the newly named Home Smart Energy Stadium – in the reverse fixture Heath claimed 3 points and a 3-2 win against the Anvils.
A new arrival was welcomed before the match, midfielder Finn Daniels-Yeomans making the Mid-Sussex switch joining from Burgess Hill Town, he found himself starting and making his debut. The Heath drew first blood after some fantastic pressing from Liam Benson, the striker beat the goalkeeper and rolled a shot towards goal and despite an Anvils defender managing to prevent Benson’s initial effort crossing the line, Cam Dobell was eagerly awaiting the follow-up and tapped the Blues ahead in the 13th minute. Blues captain Byron Napper was sent into a tumble after a desperate challenge from Crawley Down Gatwick’s midfielder and this recklessness earned him a yellow card.
Hayden Skerry replaced goalscorer Dobell at the break and immediately turned creator pulling a well-placed low cross into the box, some fortunate bounces and miss-kicks from Anvils defenders allowed Liam Benson to rifle in his second Heath’s goal and gave Heath a 2 goal cushion. Lewis Finney then extended the host’s advantage on the hour mark, cutting inside on his right foot and tucking the ball into the bottom right corner. The visitors pulled a goal back in the 64th minute, Oli Leslie’s header finding the back of the net. With only minutes to go, the Heath looked to have secured a thoroughly deserved 3 points at home, and it was rounded off with a goal from defender Josh Spinks, his effort from range given a helping hand by the Anvils goalkeeper who definitely wouldn’t want to watch it back again. The referee brought the contest to a close, the Heath fans in festive cheer and full applause for their side who put on a fantastic display in front of a 219-strong crowd.
